What's New?

Light the Night Charity Walk (October 2007)
"Light The Night is an annual Society event to raise funds for cures. It’s the nation’s night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of patients and their families. Funds raised through Light The Night Walk support the work of hundreds of the world’s best and brightest researchers in their search for better therapies and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma."

The Interact Group decided to participate in Light the Night as a spur of the moment activity. With only two days, the group raised over $500 to help find cures for cancer. The walk was held in Walnut Creek on October 13th and was a night filled with music, laughter, and lots of love. The thousands of lighted balloons were a sight to see walking in downtown Walnut Creek. This was a great first experience for the Interact group, and we all hope to participate in future charity walks. If you're interested in participating in future "Light the Night" walks, go to www.lightthenight.org and sign up in an area near you.

Adopt a Family (December 2007)
Our Interact group decided to Adopt-A-Family for our holiday project. After contacting a few people, Interact was placed with a 4 person family, a mom (Chelsea Dawn), a dad (Rick), and two girls (Chelsea Sarah and Mary). Our club took a group of volunteers to Target to shop for the family, and we luckily found everything we needed and more! We were even able to purchase the George Forman Grill that the dad had asked for. This is our first big project, and it has been a success. After the shopping, the group went back to Danielle DiDonato's house (president) to wrap everything they needed. Though there were a few struggles, Mrs. DiDonato helped everyone through wrapping, and made a learning experience of it as well. Thanks to the money we received from Rotary and a fundraising auction, we were able to spend $420 on the family, and still have plenty left. Thank you to all of you who helped!

Meals On Wheels (December 2007)
Nancy Mendes, mother of Jenna Mendes is apart of Interwheel, which is the female version of Rotary brought a project to us which was for Meals on Wheels. Jenna Mendes, Ellen Bobich, Danielle DiDonato, and Lizzy Garcia participated in this event at Jenna's house over break. Together they made 16 food baskets for this particular event which included fruit, snakcs, and a nice treat for them to enjoy. Interwheel supplied us with everything we needed, and we in turn put the baskets together for them. It was a nice little project to do.

We Recieved Our Charter! (January 2008)
The beginning of January brought a new year and our recognition as a club. A couple members of the club went to lunch at Marie Calender's Restaraunt in Concord. There they had lunch with the officials of Rotary who recognized us as a real club. They then talked about what our club is all about, and everyday school activities. Congratulations Interact on the recognition!
